Chappellet. Tasty Tuesdays at a/k/a a bistro, in St. Helena, CA. The winemaker / winery owner circulate among diners pouring their wines on Tuesdays,and offer 3 or 4 wines as a tasting flight for $9.00. On Tuesdays the restaurant’s special is a 3-course prix fixe dinner. Reservations are recommended.
Proprietors and winemakers from Diamond Terrace, Snowden, Chappellet, Sawyer, Tres Sabores, Joseph Phelps and Corison will be pouring their wines on Tuesdays in March and April at a/k/a a bistro at 1320 Main Street in St. Helena, CA.
From 6:30 p.m. until 8:00 p.m., the winemaker / winery owner circulates among diners and offers 3 or 4 wines as a tasting flight for $9.00. The diner can choose from the menu as he or she wishes: there is no obligation to have a specific dinner. On Tuesdays the a/k/a a bistro's special is a 3-course prix fixe dinner which begins with freshly house-made mozzarella, wild boar ragu-sauced penne and huckleberry sorbet.

“The idea is to meet and get to know wine people you may not have met yet,” explains owner Robert Simon, “and taste their wares at the same time and spend only a fraction of the published price for that opportunity.”

a/k/a a bistro is attracting a following not only for its day-by-day specials but also for its use of specialty and artisanal food purveyors, including short ribs and all beef products from Painted Hills (Oregon) and a double-cut Prairie Fresh pork chop. a/k/a a bistro uses only all-natural and sustainably farmed meats and produce, with no antibiotics or hormones. Corkage is waived Sunday through Thursday and is $8 Friday and Saturday.
Customers can depend on a/k/a a bistro for weekly specials, including handmade pasta on Wednesday, all-natural beef short ribs on Thursday, bouillabaisse on Friday and coq au vin on Saturday. The menu offers a wide range of small and large plates across a modern reading of California bistro cuisine. The complete menu can be found at www.akabistro.com. The restaurant is open for lunch beginning at 11:30 a.m. seven days a week; dinner Tuesday through Thursday 4:30 – 9:00 p.m., Friday & Saturday 4:30 – 9:30 p.m. and on Sunday 4:30 – 8:30 p.m.
Locals know this space as the former Keller’s Market (the original Keller’s sign still hangs out front) and the interior incorporates the pressed tin ceiling familiar to long-time customers of the beloved butcher shop as well as twig-wrapped light pendants, a comfy front lounge and eco-friendly fireplace.
Robert and Deborah Simon also own and operate Bistro 45 in Pasadena, California, which they founded 20 years ago.
